Take advantage of robust demand to attract more customers to your business. There's plenty of work out there!

Take some simple steps keep your sales pipeline full:

Ramp up promotional efforts It's easy to make the sale when customers want to buy. In the fall, you need to start selling again. Clients are often unaware of what services they need to buy. Show them how they can make landscape enhancements that they'll benefit from for years to come.

Sell all of the options. Consumer demand is at all-time highs. But busy customers don't know all of their options. Remind them that the fall is the best time to tackle many landscape projects. Educate them on new enhancements you can offer them, from drainage to landscape lighting to decorative water features.

Let them know you have time later in the year. During 2021, consumers reported that it's hard to get any contractor to show up. They'll be pleased to know your schedule has openings in the weeks ahead.

Why Contractors FAIL at Cross-Selling Additional Services

The fastest way to grow a more profitable contracting business is to sell more products and services to the clients you already have.

Many contractors seek to sell a large menu of services to every client, but are not successful making that happen.

Why does cross-selling fail?

Stuck at first impressions. Customers invest time up front to select the right contractor and the right services. Once they've bought, they stop learning. When they need a new service, they often start the search all over again, rather than going back to the current contractor.

No follow up marketing. It's essential to stay in touch with past clients. Constantly remind clients of what you offer and all of the additional services they can buy from you. But don't try to sell everything at once! Instead sell in bite-sized pieces, promoting individual services one-at-a-time in the months where they fit best.

Technicians don't participate. Opportunities that are observed on the worksite aren't reported back to the main office. If you don't set a cross-selling quota for technicians, they'll avoid making the effort. Even better, put an incentive behind your effort and watch how quickly technicians work to earn the bonus.

Start your plans to get more clients buying more. It's a recipe for success that will grow your bottom line.

Protect Backflows from Unexpected Freezes

The Zurn Wilkins ZWFR Freeze Relief Valve is designed to prevent freeze damage for backflow devices, and requires no periodic maintenance. The ZWFR can protect pressure vacuum breakers, double-check and reduced pressure principle assemblies, as well as the detector assemblies on large backflow products.

How does it work? The ZWFR operates on the principle of detecting the difference between outside air temperature and inside water temperature. The ZWFR senses when water temperature approaches near-freezing (35° F) and opens to draw warmer supply water into the system. As the system reaches equilibrium (40°F) the valve closes. This venting process protects the backflow from catastrophic freeze damage.

How is the ZWFR installed? The ZWFR is easy to install and maintain. Simply thread the ZWFR device into a standard test cock - no shutdown or system draining required. Its compact design is compatible with most backflow preventers. The corrosion resistant bronze body requires no periodic maintenance.

Where do I install the ZWFR? The ZWFR device is ideal for regions where occasional (and unexpected) freeze/thaw cycles occur, yet winterization (e.g., draining the system) is not common or required. Regions such as the south and west, where backflow preventers and equipment are typically installed outdoors, are particularly susceptible to system damage from a freeze.
