MPR Update: You're Going to Have a GREAT Year!

The Landscape Bonanza Continues!

After a year of disruptions, it's nice to look ahead and see many positive things coming in 2021.

Demand will be really strong. Homeowners have money and want to spend it. Access to credit is at record low rates both for refinancing and home equity loans. Remind them what they need to buy - and that they need to buy it from you!

Home values are rising. When home values are increasing, homeowners are reminded to invest in their largest asset. Show them how they can enhance their landscapes.

Home construction is not keeping up with demand. Inventory of new houses for sale is at record lows, boosting both new construction and remodeling. This will drive even more demand for landscape services.

The outdoor living spaces trend continues to expand. They want their landscapes to be nice! Capture easy add-on sales for enhancements like lighting, wifi controllers and much more. Show them what they need, and they'll show you the money.

The landscape bonanza continues. Let's maximize your success!

How to Communicate a Price Increase to Customers

Customers will accept price increases when they’re communicated clearly and honestly. They don’t want to hear excuses or double-talk. Just tell the truth: what’s increasing and when it’s increasing.

Some increases you’ll communicate by mail, others you’ll share in person or by phone. Consider which will work best for your situation. Often you’ll want to do a mix: call or visit the most important clients, and mail a letter to the rest.

Once you’ve stated your increase, focus on the relationship:
Share appreciation: state how much you’ve enjoyed serving the customer and how you look forward to continuing that.
Remind the client of the unique value you bring: how you’re committed to doing an excellent job on their property. Be as specific as possible.

Avoid these things when communicating price increases:
  1. Apologizing. There’s no reason to be sorry for covering your costs and making a living.
  2. “Beating around the bush” with a long introduction or tons of text. Be clear.
  3. “Trying to make up for it” by offering sweeteners, free services, etc. to make the customer feel better.
  4. Communicating to the wrong person Be sure your notice reaches the person paying your bill.

Demos Help You Sell More Landscape Lighting

Customers will want to enjoy their landscapes during warm summer evenings, start marketing now!

Demo installations are a quick and effective way to turn existing clients into lighting buyers. Light up a small area of their landscape, and then watch the sales magic happen. Here are tips to make demos more effective:

Set up demo lighting when you're already on site performing other services. It will take just a few minutes to position a few fixtures to demonstrate lighting effects.

Focus your demo on an area the homeowner sees every evening. Rather than trying to light the entire yard, demonstrate the effects of lighting in a concentrated area that is highly visible.

Leave the demo lighting in place for several days. Give time for the homeowner to enjoy the effect. Leave the lighting in for approximately a week. The transformer photocell will switch the lights on each night at dusk.

Follow up for feedback. Call the homeowner to get their feedback on what they like and don't like. They'll often provide you with ideas on how to tailor your final proposal to win the project.

Why Choose 12-Volt Patio / Bistro Lighting?

Patio or bistro lights are the hottest trend in outdoor lighting. They're the idea way to light decks, patios and other landscape features as part of a landscape lighting system.

The advantages of using 12-volt lighting over traditional plug-in 120 volt sets are important:
  • Connect easy. 12 volt lighting connects to the landscape lighting transformer, simplifying set-up.
  • Control easy. Have patio lights come on with regular landscape lighting, or use a separate zone on the transformer.
  • No high voltage wiring or safety concerns. No electrician needed for 12-volt runs. Safe around pets and children.

Next Generation Pond Filtration from Atlantic

Filtration is an essential in pond construction. You're familiar with many methods. Skimmers are commonly applied to remove surface debris and keep pumps from clogging. Biological filtration in waterfall boxes converts wastes to plant food. Pressurized filter canisters with UVC lights keep algae from taking over.

From Atlantic comes the next generation of filtration: the ProfiClear Premium Compact-M and the ProfiClear Premium Compact-L pump-fed filters. These flow-through filters are unique in that they have a drum filter combined with a moving bed of floating filter media that can keep up to 31,500 gallons crystal clear. The unit is self-cleaning and self-maintaining.
