Be Ready for Strong Residential Demand in 2021

COVID-19 shutdowns have driven fantastic demand for landscaping services. Expect the trend to continue through this fall (strong demand for landscape lighting and yard drainage) and into the holidays (surging interest in professionally-installed holiday decor).

Consumers aren't likely to go back to old habits quickly. Many believe the strong activity in landscape upgrades will continue into the 2021 season.

Additionally, the residential housing market is red hot, fueled by low supply and low mortgage rates. Expect even stronger home construction and home remodeling numbers in the first half of 2021.

Protect Backflows from Unexpected Freezes with Zurn ZWFR

The Zurn Wilkins ZWFR Freeze Relief Valve is designed to prevent freeze damage for backflow devices, and requires no periodic maintenance. The ZWFR can protect pressure vacuum breakers, double-check and reduced pressure principle assemblies, as well as the detector assemblies on large backflow products.

How does it work? The ZWFR operates on the principle of detecting the difference between outside air temperature and inside water temperature. The ZWFR senses when water temperature approaches near-freezing (35° F) and opens to draw warmer supply water into the system. As the system reaches equilibrium (40°F) the valve closes. This venting process protects the backflow from catastrophic freeze damage.

How is the ZWFR installed? The ZWFR is easy to install and maintain. Simply thread the ZWFR device into a standard test cock - no shutdown or system draining required. Its compact design is compatible with most backflow preventers. The corrosion resistant bronze body requires no periodic maintenance.

Where do I install the ZWFR? The ZWFR device is ideal for regions where occasional (and unexpected) freeze/thaw cycles occur, yet winterization (e.g., draining the system) is not common or required. Regions such as the south and west, where backflow preventers and equipment are typically installed outdoors, are particularly susceptible to system damage from a freeze.

Analyzing the Source of Failures in Plastic Pipe Systems

The primary purpose of finding the source of failure is to prevent continuing or future problems.

As an analyst, it is important to enter any examination with an open mind, not biased with a preconceived conclusion.

As commonly repeated on the popular TV crime investigation shows, "see where the evidence leads"!
