May 2020

Greetings!

Suddenly everything got more complicated!

Here are tips to streamline your operations and keep customers comfortable in this unprecedented season.

Safety first. People are home and are going to be watching everything that goes on in their neighborhoods. Put your customers' nerves at ease by letting them know your safety procedures and be sure your employees follow them.

Communicate proactively. Contact customers directly to let them know your services, hours and plans to meet their needs. Make use of email, text and phone calls to connect. Postcards can physically remind customers to call you.

Refocus frazzled customers. Sometimes they need to be reminded that their yard needs to be properly cared for - and that they should carry forward with services to avoid disappointment later.

Pre-sell summer services. Maximize customer satisfaction - and your sales opportunities - by selling your full menu of services to every client. Develop "leave behinds" to promote additional services and add-ons to book summer work. Ask us if you need help with this.

Be a bright spot in each customer's day. Now more than ever, having a relationship with a trusted local professional is really valued. In this time of isolation, make an extra effort to connect. Be friendly, go the extra mile to serve and say "thank you" as often as you can.

In what ways can we support you right now?

Avoid the "Big Box"! Why You and Your Customers Should Invest in Pro-Grade Patio Lights

Patio string lighting is a hot trend for outdoor living. It's no wonder why the big box stores have gotten into of the business of selling patio lighting kits. Similar to landscape lighting, these kits make big promises, but the product does not hold up to the test. Buyer beware! Here are some key differences to point out to your customers:

  • Big box kits can't be connected to 12-volt landscape lighting systems. Prime Patio offers string lights that connect to the landscape lighting transformer for a fast, safe installation.
  • Big box kits are typically not LED. LED systems can save up to 70% in electricity use over the life of the system. Plus the lamp life is 10-times longer than traditional incandescent.
  • Big box kits use thin wire. Prime Patio systems include heavy-duty components that stand up to wind and weather.

Skip the kits and ask us about adding professional Prime Patio lighting into your list of services. You'll be glad you did!

Toro introduces SMRT Logic™ and SMRTscape™ for mobile landscape control anywhere, anytime.

It offers unparalleled remote control of your clients' irrigation, outdoor lighting, and other landscape features through your smartphone, tablet, or computer. Fully compatible with the Toro EVOLUTION Series controller; TMC Series controllers; and Custom Command controllers; as well as, Irritrol® irrigation controllers and Unique Lighting Systems® installations.

Simple plug and play operation that allows the SMRT Logic to sync with the homeowner's router and connect to the internet without the need for network passwords.

Communicates to the homeowner's controllers (up to 10) and/or outdoor landscape features via a proprietary 900 MHz radio signal, as opposed to relying on the property's Wi-Fi network.

How to Line Up More Work for Summer:
Implement Service Evaluations

Q: How can you capture future work during spring irrigation service visits?

A: Create a "20 point service check-up" sheet.

Just make a list of 20 things that your technicians should check for with every spring start up.

Some favorite things to list are: heads that need to be raised/lowered, if the system has a rain sensor, riser-mounted heads that could be converted to high-pops, coverage problems and more.

Also record other landscape needs: drainage problems, landscape lighting fixtures, etc.

Pointing out opportunities to improve your customer's landscape will increase their satisfaction with your service, make you look more professional and boost sales.

Provide the customer with a summary including options and pricing for any corrective actions.

Train technicians to walk through the form so the client understands what needs to be done to make the irrigation system more water efficient.

Keep a copy of the form on file (or virtually in your service software like Service Titan) so you can follow up with the client later to sell the items recommended.
