Rain Bird's Smart Controller Continues to Win Accolades for Ease of Use

The Rain Bird® ESP-SMTe stands out as a leader.

Other Smart Sprinkler Timers claim simplicity and precision; the ESP-SMTe delivers. This innovative system can now expand up to 22 zones. How does the ESP-SMTe conserve water?

The ESP-SMTe leverages technology used by top golf courses for decades, and integrates it into an easy-to-use residential/light commercial controller. The controller will only water when necessary and will only water the amount that the landscape requires, which means no more over watering.

  • On-site rainfall data - The ESP-SMTe collects rainfall amounts from the property and uses this information to recalculate run times for each irrigation zone.
  • Historical weather data - The internal memory of the ESP-SMTe contains over eight years of historical weather data. This data, along with the onsite rainfall and temperature information, is used to adjust watering run times on a daily basis.
  • Reduced water run-off - The ESP-SMTe Cycle and Soak™ feature allows the controller to consider soil conditions when it calculates run time. This reduces the amount of water that runs off because the soil can't absorb it.

Marketing Tips to Help Sell Smart Irrigation Products & Upgrades

How can your company be more successful by promoting smart products during Smart Irrigation Month?

Here are some ideas of things to do:

  • Educate More to Sell More: Include tip sheets with your invoices and articles in your company e-newsletter that highlight valuable upgrades that save water.
  • Hold Summer Customer Events: Bring together customers for workshops, seminars or ice-cream socials where you can demonstrate new innovations.
  • Leave Behind Door Hangers: Ask your technicians to leave messages at the door of houses that are overwatering or that have irrigation problems.
  • Offer Watering Schedules: Print recommended watering schedules for customers. Show how these can be achieved more easily with a self-adjusting controller.
  • Offer a System Check-Up: Offer complimentary pass/fail system checkups to customers to identify opportunities to reduce water waste.

Helpful Products Make Irrigation Servce & Repair More Profitable

Routine maintenance is part of keeping an automobile in good working order. Changing the oil, wiper blades and brake pads ensures top performance and prolongs the useful life of the vehicle.

Irrigation systems also have components that wear out over time. With the large number of irrigation systems installed in the last 25 years, the irrigation maintenance, repair and overhaul business is expected to grow at twice the rate of installations in the next 5 years.

Smart contractors are increasing focus on the fast-growing service side of the business. These companies can benefit by learning more about the unique products, tools and technology available that can equip an efficient, effective field service team.

MPR Supply offers a number of handy and affordable products from The Source, Inc. that are particularly helpful in the diagnosis, maintenance and repair of older irrigation systems. Learn about them here.
